collaborating with community partners, received a grant from the Howard
Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to fund “EXPANDING CONNECTIONS
IN SCIENCE EDUCATION”. The project seeks to strengthen K-12 science
education in Ashland, Holmes, and Wayne Counties by establishing a central
location to coordinate outreach activities, developing an Educational
Partnership, and coordinating a Teacher-Scholar Program.
Project Partners:
Tri-County Educational
Service Center (TESC)
Wooster City
Schools
Ohio Agricultural
Research & Development Center (OARDC)
The College
of Wooster
The outreach project is coordinated and supported by the Wooster
Science Education Center (WSEC) and includes the educational
partnership developed by the Partnerships
in Science Committee (PSC). The PSC, composed of
local educators and scientists, oversees a professional development program
to help teachers in 3rd- 6th grades understand the underlying content
in the new Ohio science standards, access and use effective teaching strategies,
and share information and results with other teachers. Science
Education Workshops for local teachers will be offered in the
summers of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.
The Teacher-Scholar Program (TSP), also coordinated
by the WSEC, pairs COW students with classroom teachers to assist with
science activities.
