PROGRAM INFORMATION: |
|
The Teacher-Scholar Program (TSP) is part of the "EXPANDING CONNECTIONS IN SCIENCE EDUCATION" project, which seeks to strengthen K-12 science education in Ashland, Holmes, and Wayne Counties. The TSP trains science majors, "Scholars", at the College of Wooster (COW) to assist elemenary teachers who attended our summer Science Education Workshops with in-class science instruction during fall semester. The Wooster Science Education Center (WSEC) Director manages the TSP. Cooperating Teachers supervise the Scholars during their 39 hours of in-class time. The TSP also contributes $500 to help each participating teacher meet their instructional needs to address the new Ohio science standards. This will include the development of a new hands-on science activity. The TSP offers something special to each participant: -Scholars: Earn 1 credit, increase your science knowledge by teaching others, share and apply your science knowledge in a real world setting, and explore teaching as a career opportunity. -Teachers: Bring a science majorinto your classroom, use the Scholar and supply funds ($500) to develop new and interesting science learning opportunities for your students, get involved with the WSEC, and share your profession with a student.
